My chickens are molting.\u00a0 I went out into the chicken house this morning and thought there had been a massacre.\u00a0 Feathers everywhere.\u00a0 My poor chooks look like someone has plucked them for dinner.\u00a0\u00a0 I think they are a little embarrassed.\u00a0 They also are not laying very well right now as we are only getting one egg a day.\u00a0\u00a0 I tell them they need to get busy and start laying again because we are coming into the baking season!<\/p>\n

David got a pointy egg the other day.\u00a0 It barely fit in the egg carton.\u00a0\u00a0 I wonder who is the one laying the one lone egg every day.\u00a0 All the other chickens do all day is eat and poop which is nice work if you can get it, I guess.<\/p>\n

We had another tree cut down the other day.\u00a0 A big elm that had to have been sixty or seventy years old.\u00a0 It was beginning to drop branches in the driveway every time there was a storm or wind.\u00a0 We were thinking it might be dangerous as it was so near to the house.\u00a0 So several men came and cut it down.<\/p>\n

It has stood over our house for many years, but now it was becoming dangerous, dropping branches and we feared a good stiff wind might blow it onto the house so we called the tree men.<\/p>\n

We have had the same people cut down a few of our trees.\u00a0 Up the bucket went into the tree and the cutting began.<\/p>\n

The men \u00a0worked with precision, dropping the big limbs carefully down where they\u00a0cut some up for us and\u00a0mulched the rest.<\/p>\n

David did not want to split the big logs, so they loaded them onto their truck.\u00a0 They rolled\u00a0them onto that\u00a0lift and it lifted them up into the truck bed.<\/p>\n

It took three men to\u00a0roll them onto the lift.<\/p>\n

The man in the sun glasses did all the cutting off of the limbs.\u00a0 He sure knew what he was doing.<\/p>\n

They still left a lot of wood to be cut and split.\u00a0 David has been working on this pile for a few days.\u00a0 We have wood stacked everywhere.\u00a0\u00a0 Wood we will burn in our fire pit.\u00a0 We love to burn fires and sit out in the fresh air and talk.\u00a0\u00a0 Wish you could smell the wood.\u00a0 There is something about the scent of fresh cut wood that reminds me of days in the woods.\u00a0 Years ago, we had an old red truck and three children at home and we would load them up and go to Camp Atterbury where we had permission to cut up downed timber.\u00a0 We would spend the day in the woods, David cutting it and me helping him load it into the truck while the children played.\u00a0 Then we would all sit in the cab of the truck, five of us(there were no seat belt laws then) and took our load of wood home where we would once again have to unload it and stack it.\u00a0 They say cutting wood warms you three times, when you cut it, when you stack it and when you burn it.\u00a0 It’s true.<\/p>\n

Fall is the only time when I feel like making donuts.\u00a0 I decided to make a bunch of donut holes the other day. David fried them while I rolled them out and cut them.\u00a0 Then I shook some of them in a bag with sugar and cinnamon and glazed the rest with icing.\u00a0 Yum, were they good.\u00a0 We took some to Sunday school to share with our classes.<\/p>\n

We had the most glorious sunset the other night.\u00a0 I was sitting in our living room and noticed the sky looked yellow.\u00a0 So I took my camera out back and snapped some pictures.<\/p>\n

Loved the way the trees were silhouetted against the sky.<\/p>\n

How majestic is a God who can create such beauty.\u00a0 I could not stop looking at the sky.\u00a0 I always feel so close to God when I see something so spectacular in nature.\u00a0 The sky looked like it was on fire.\u00a0 These pictures still make me feel awed.<\/p>\n

Had a fire in the fireplace tonight.\u00a0 Doesn’t it look pretty?\u00a0 Would you believe this is an electric fire?\u00a0\u00a0 No wood involved?\u00a0\u00a0 We got this at Lowes tonight and I am thrilled how realistic this looks and it has a heater too.\u00a0\u00a0 We don’t burn wood in our fireplace any longer.\u00a0 We use to have a wood burning stove in it and burnt wood all the time.\u00a0 One year, when I was baby sitting several children, I felt our chimney(it runs straight up the middle of the house) and it felt really hot.\u00a0 So I gathered all the children together and called the fire department.\u00a0 I told him I thought we were having a chimney fire, but it wasn’t an emergency and please don’t use the sirens when coming to our house.\u00a0 Well, several fire trucks showed up at our house, sirens blaring.\u00a0\u00a0 Big firemen in big boots with axes in their hands came into our house.\u00a0 The next thing I knew they were chopping a hole in a wall and climbing through the ceiling to our attic and going on the roof.\u00a0 I was so afraid they were going to chop a hole in the roof, but they didn’t. All the while, the little children were watching the firemen bug eyed and I couldn’t help but laugh. They said there had been a fire, but it was out and we had nothing to worry about.\u00a0 Except for that big hole in our wall!\u00a0 Thankfully, insurance took care of that.\u00a0\u00a0 Therefore, we don’t burn wood anymore in the house.<\/p>\n
