{"id":4502,"date":"2015-06-11T02:29:05","date_gmt":"2015-06-11T02:29:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?p=4502"},"modified":"2015-06-11T13:24:46","modified_gmt":"2015-06-11T13:24:46","slug":"rhubarb-textiles-and-a-really-cute-quilt-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?p=4502","title":{"rendered":"Rhubarb, textiles and a Really Cute Quilt Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Enjoying your Summer?\u00a0\u00a0 I am enjoying it so much, except for the really hot days that seem to sap all my energy.\u00a0 We are going to be in the nineties for the next few days and I am not looking forward to it.\u00a0 That is possibly why I love Alaska so much.\u00a0 I was never hot while I was up there.<\/p>\n<p>We have had a bumper crop of rhubarb this year.\u00a0 For years I tried growing it, but never seemed to be able to until the last three or four years and now it is growing very well indeed.\u00a0 We had rainy, cool weather earlier, which rhubarb loves, and it grew and grew. I think all the chicken poo and composted cow manure I put\u00a0on it last fall helped too.\u00a0 I have made rhubarb pies before, but this year I tried something different.\u00a0 Rhubarb and strawberry crunch.\u00a0 I have used this recipe for years to make apple crunch.\u00a0\u00a0 Now it is David&#8217;s and my favorite way to eat rhubarb.\u00a0 Here is how you make it.<\/p>\n<p>First you go out in your garden and cut several stalks of rhubarb.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?attachment_id=4470\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4470\"><img loading=\"lazy\" (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also mixed in about a half cup of flour to thicken it\u00a0because rhubarb makes a lot of juice when it is cooking.\u00a0 I think I could have added just a little more, but David says he likes the juice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?attachment_id=4474\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4474\"><img loading=\"lazy\" plates.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t have any?\u00a0\u00a0Well, just any ol&#8217; pie plate will do.\u00a0 I spray canola oil in them, but you can butter them if you want to add even more calories.<\/p>\n<p>Now for the crunch part.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?attachment_id=4476\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4476\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mix one and\u00a01\/2 half cups of\u00a0flour,\u00a0 3\/4 cup of sugar, 1\/4 tsp. of salt,\u00a0 one tsp. of baking powder together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?attachment_id=4477\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4477\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4477\" (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Take two of your disproportionate eggs that you found under your free range chickens.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t have chickens?\u00a0 Any chicken eggs will do.\u00a0\u00a0 Break them into the flour mixture and stir with a fork until well mixed.\u00a0 Then add 1\/2 cup of canola oil.\u00a0 (Do not use olive oil in this.)\u00a0 I have always used canola oil so that is the only thing I can tell you will work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?attachment_id=4478\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4478\"><img loading=\"lazy\" mean full, you pat the dough all over the top of it with your bare hands.\u00a0 Try to cover everything.\u00a0 You will think you don&#8217;t have enough dough, but it will cover it all if you work at apple crunch, I sprinkle both sugar and cinnamon on the\u00a0 top. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 to\u00a045 minutes or until top is golden brown and dry to touch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/snicklefritz.net\/blog\/?attachment_id=4481\" rel=\"attachment well, CUTE!!\u00a0 Have I gushed enough about this book and the cute patterns?\u00a0 I am just so glad I decided to buy this pattern book.\u00a0 It has already given me hours of happiness.<\/p>\n<p>Now to the garden.\u00a0 My vegetable garden already looks like a weed patch although you can see the tomatoes, pumpkins and sunflowers above the weeds.\u00a0 I go out occasionally and pull a few weeds and a few hundred more grow up to take their place.\u00a0 I have never seen weeds come up and grow so fast before.<\/p>\n<p>My flower gardens give me so much pleasure.\u00a0 In my
